NH Research introduces grid simulator for testing EVs and other grid-tied tech

Test instruments and systems firm NH Research has introduced the new 9510 Regenerative Grid Simulator, which is intended for research labs. The company says it’s designed for testing EVs, micro-grids, PV inverters, V2G and energy storage systems.

The 9510 Regenerative Grid Simulator can be used to test and verify high-power grid-tied applications, and includes a built-in power amplifier, galvanic isolation, adjustability, and an optional 4-quadrant AC load capacity. Its power amplifier mode for Power Hardware in the Loop (PHIL) provides low latency at 50 μs, which helps simulate real-world conditions. The 9510 also does away with an external transformer due to its built-in galvanic isolation. Grid Simulators with power levels of 50 kW, 75 kW, and 100 kW, programmable frequencies between 30 and 120 Hz, and outputs of AC, DC and AC+DC are available. The company says the 4-quadrant AC load capacity option supplies flexibility to the source and load with one device, and the current measurement is highly accurate.

NH Research also says the 9510 Regenerative Grid Simulator’s compact size yields energy, cost and space savings.
